African wild dogs (Lycaon pictus), also known as painted dogs or painted wolves, are highly efficient predators with an 80% hunting success rate, far surpassing lions or leopards.

Their cooperative pack-hunting strategy, relentless stamina, and ability to target a variety of prey make them a formidable presence in the African Savanna.

While they don’t instill fear in all animals—lions and hyenas, for instance, often dominate them through sheer strength or scavenging—many smaller or less aggressive species instinctively avoid them.

These small antelopes are fast but lack the endurance of wild dogs. Their immediate flight response to a chasing pack reflects a clear fear of being caught and torn apart.
